Rohit Bhargava is a professor in the Department of Bioengineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is also a faculty member in the Beckman Institute Bioimaging Science and Technology group. His laboratory’s research focuses on the development of novel chemical imaging technology that can be used to detect, diagnose, and understand tissue structure and cancer pathology, as well as the development of instrumentation approaches to fast infrared spectroscopic imaging and algorithms for analyzing large imaging data sets.

Professor Bhargava was selected as the recipient of the 2013 Craver Award, which was created in 2006 by the Coblentz Society to recognize the work of young professional spectroscopists that have made significant contributions in applied analytical vibrational spectroscopy. The award is named for Clara D. Craver to recognize her efforts in promoting the practice of IR vibrational spectroscopy and her years of service to the Coblentz Society. The Craver Award will be presented at the SciX 2013 conference. Bhargava will present the Coblentz Society’s Clara Craver Award plenary lecture at the conference.

More about the SciX conference

The North American meeting of FACSS is now called “SciX — The Great Scientific Exchange.” SciX covers the whole of analytical chemistry with an emphasis on emerging technologies. SciX carries the FACSS tradition of a strong technical program (over 100 symposia), many prestigious awards, exhibits, a variety of workshops, an employment bureau and multiple social networking opportunities.

SciX is the National Meeting of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy (SAS).
