Want to avoid blockages and sensitivity loss? Know the proper way to clean and maintain your torch. Carbon buildup may occur on the torch when you run organic solvents. Once it starts, it can quickly block the torch injector, reducing sensitivity and degrading precision. Even worse, injector blockages can damage—or even melt—the torch. Fortunately, you can prevent blockages—and minimize downtime caused by torch degradation—by following a few simple maintenance procedures.

Phosphorous, sulfur and chlorine are commonly analyzed elements in liquids such as petroleum products and organic solvents. To better meet demands of such applications, the Rigaku Supermini200 benchtop wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WDXRF) spectrometer’s analyzing crystal set has been configured to optimize performance for trace level analysis of P, S and Cl. XRF analysis allows rapid and precise elemental characterization of such samples with minimum sample preparation. This application note demonstrates a method for trace level analysis of P, S and Cl in oil samples, with measurement results obtainable in minutes with quick and easy sample preparation, enabling processing of large quantities of samples.
