Event Overview:

Four water-quality programs now share one compliance calendar in North America. Lead sampling expands under the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, with a 10 ug/L action level from November 2027. PFOA and PFOS are regulated at 4 ng/L, and Health Canada has set a 30 ng/L objective for 25 PFAS. Microplastics are listed on EPA's draft Contaminant Candidate List 6, and the proposed UCMR 6 would add organics monitoring from 2028 to 2030. This session pairs each requirement with the method that governs it, from ICP-OES and ICP-MS for metals to GC-MS for organics and LC-MS/MS for PFAS, and explains why polymer identity matters for microplastics. Results from certified reference materials, 12-hour unattended runs and real surface water and wastewater samples show the performance labs can expect and where method criteria are hardest to meet. Attendees leave with a practical order of work for adding methods before the deadlines overlap.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Map US EPA and Health Canada water rules to the methods that govern them
  • Judge method performance from reference-material and stability data
  • Prioritize lab capability for lead, microplastics, organics and PFAS

Who Should Attend:

  • Environmental testing lab managers and technicians
  • Analytical scientists and chemists
  • Environmental compliance and industrial lab professionals
  • CRO scientists and project leads
  • Government and regulatory lab staff

Speakers:

Andrea Palpini
Inorganic Field Application Scientist
PerkinElmer

Andrea Palpini is an inorganic field application scientist with PerkinElmer. Specializing in analytical techniques such as ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and AA, she provides training and application development to laboratory personnel. Kyle Dunleavy
Business Development Manager
PerkinElmer

Kyle Dunleavy has more than a decade of experience in analytical science and instrumentation, with a particular focus on chromatography, mass spectrometry, and sample preparation. His experience includes a global perspective on analytical method development, having supported laboratory design and buildout projects across six of the world’s seven continents, including over a dozen total countries. Today, he works in strategic growth and commercial development for LC-MS/MS instrumentation, helping laboratories evaluate analytical workflows and technologies for challenging applications across a broad range of industries, including pharma, CRO, clinical, toxicology, anti-doping, environmental, food-safety, academia, and others. He brings this broad analytical perspective to today’s discussion on QSight 500, PerkinElmer’s LC-MS/MS triple quad designed for developing and routinely running robust, reliable workflows for complex samples.

Warren Edmunds
Sr. Field Application Scientist
PerkinElmer

Dr. Warren Edmunds is a Senior Applications Scientist for PerkinElmer specializing in FT-IR spectroscopy, infrared microscopy, and chemometric multivariate data analysis. He received his Ph.D. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from North Carolina State University. Warren has been at PerkinElmer for about 8 years. Prior to working at PerkinElmer, he held research positions at the University of Tennessee and at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory where his research involved developing novel conversion pathways for plant-based biofuels and high-value chemicals. Warren is currently involved with developing various FTIR analytical techniques and measurement methodologies for different industries.
