This year, the SciX Conference will take place at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Kentucky, from October 5–10, 2025 (1). SciX, which brings together scientists, engineers, industry professionals, and instrument vendors, serves as a forum to share the latest trends and research in analytical chemistry, instrumentation, and spectroscopy. This event is hosted annually by the Federation of Analytical Chemistry and Spectroscopy Societies (FACSS) (1).

What can attendees expect from this conference?

SciX attendees can expect to have access to a technically rich and varied conference program. Apart from oral presentations, award ceremonies, and short courses, attendees will also have the option to listen to poster presentations delivered by graduate students.

Below, we highlight the keynote presentation that will take place at SciX this year.

Title of Talk: Unveiling the Unknown: The Pursuit to Understand UAP’s

Keynote Speaker: Michael Gold

Time: Monday October 6th at 8:30 – 9:30 am EST

Location: Ballroom B

Mike Gold currently serves as the President of Civil and International Space at Redwire, an aerospace and defense company (1).

Some of the topics that will be explored include the fundamentals and instrumentation for infrared (IR), Raman spectroscopy, and near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy, atomic absorption and emission spectroscopy, including flame, inductively coupled plasma (ICP), graphite furnace, and related sample prep and troubleshooting topics (2).

What information should attendees know about the Exhibition Hall?

One of the important components to the SciX Conference is the exhibit hall. Walking the floor of the exhibit hall remains one of the favored aspects to SciX because it gives attendees the opportunity to forge connections with industry professionals and see the latest instrumentation, analytical software, technologies, and supplies currently being used in the industry (1).

At SciX this year, the Exhibit Hall will be open from October 6th through 8th (1,2).

Why is SciX important?

The SciX Conference is an important conference because it is one of the bigger shows in the analytical chemistry and spectroscopy space. FACSS collaborates with many different societies, including the Coblentz Society, the Society for Applied Spectroscopy, and the North American Society for Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, to name a few (1).

This conference offers numerous professional and personal opportunities for early career scientists, graduate students, and young professionals. Through the poster sessions and short courses, young professionals have several forums to engage seasoned professionals and network. For students, presenting their research at SciX through poster sessions often serves as their first opportunity to gain exposure, which could lead to career and/or postdoctoral opportunities (1,2).

And finally, the research presented at SciX spans multiple industries. Application areas such as pharmaceuticals, environmental science, forensics, materials science, food safety, biotechnology, and beyond are represented at SciX (1,2). For researchers and practitioners in analytical chemistry, spectroscopy, and instrumentation, this is an ideal conference for them for this reason.
