Spectroscopy is excited to announce the launch of “Pathways in Spectroscopy,” a new video series dedicated to showcasing the experiences, insights, and career journeys of emerging leaders and young scientists across the spectroscopy community. Created to support early-career professionals and students navigating today’s competitive job market, the series will spotlight voices shaping the future of the field, offering practical advice, personal perspectives, and candid discussions about building a career in spectroscopy.
“Pathways in Spectroscopy” will explore a wide range of topics central to professional growth, including developing essential technical and soft skills, transitioning between academia and industry, identifying advancement opportunities, and understanding the evolving landscape of analytical instrumentation and applications. Each short episode is designed to provide viewers with actionable guidance and relatable stories from scientists who are forging their own paths in this dynamic and rapidly growing field.
All episodes will be published on the Spectroscopy website under the “Shorts” section and will also be accessible via the “News” tab on Spectroscopy’s homepage, ensuring easy access for audiences across the community.
The series will kick off next week on Wednesday, January 28th, with a feature from our first guest, Sarah Theiner, who currently serves as Sales Manager at Nu Instruments and is recognized as Spectroscopy’s 2026 Emerging Leader in Atomic Spectroscopy awardee. In this debut episode, Theiner shares her personal journey transitioning from her research role at the University of Vienna to a commercial leadership position within one of the industry’s instrumentation companies. Her story will highlight the opportunities and challenges that come with shifting career directions, offering valuable insight for young scientists considering similar transitions.
Ahead of next week’s launch, Will Wetzel, Senior Editor at Spectroscopy, provides a preview of what viewers can expect from this new initiative, emphasizing how “Pathways in Spectroscopy” aims to inspire, inform, and connect the next generation of spectroscopy professionals.
