In his SciX interview, Marc Porter discusses what happens to hydrogen when thiols bind to gold, how close analytical chemists can get to detecting a single molecule in a liter, and his new PFAS-focused startup.
This application note demonstrates the use of Raman spectroscopy to analyze the structural properties of carbon materials. Researchers performed chemical imaging on mechanical pencil refills of varying hardness to map graphite and disorder-related carbon structures at the submicron level. The study highlights Raman’s advantage over elemental and X-ray diffraction analysis for characterizing both crystalline and amorphous carbon materials non-destructively.
