Renishaw (Hoffman Estates, Illinois), a global engineering technologies company, has received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2014 in the Innovations category for its inVia Raman microscope. The award was granted for the continuous development of the inVia, which enables the rapid generation of high definition two-dimensional and three-dimensional chemical images for material analysis.
The inVia microscope can be used in the chemical analysis; materials science; pharmaceuticals; semiconductors; forensics; gemology; antiquities; and green energy development, such as photovoltaics.
The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are given out each year by the Queen of England on the advice of the British Prime Minister, who is assisted by an advisory committee that includes representatives of government, industry and commerce, and trade unions. The awards are given solely on merit, and the number presented each year is not pre-set.
