Metrohm USA, a chemical analysis instrument manufacturer, recently announced the opening of its new regional office and laboratory facility in the United States, according to a recent press release (1,2). This new facility, which is designed to expand Metrohm’s footprint in the American Midwest, is located in Lombard, Illinois, which is a suburb in the Chicago area. According to Metrohm, this strategic expansion is designed to strengthen the company’s commitment to providing enhanced support and faster service to its growing customer base.
“This new Chicago facility is a huge step in that direction for the Midwest,” said Ed Colihan, CEO of Metrohm USA in a press release (2). “Our goal is always to make complex analysis simpler and more accessible for our customers. Chicago, Illinois, is the third-largest city in the United States, and it is an important economic hub not only in the Midwest, but in the country. It is home to several Fortune 500 companies, such as Abbvie, Boeing, United Airlines Holdings, US Foods, State Farm, and Abbott Laboratories (3).
Conveniently located in the greater Chicago area, Metrohm’s new facility serves as a central hub for a broad range of industries, including chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, environmental testing, and petrochemicals. With close proximity to major highways and just a short drive from both O’Hare and Midway airports, the Lombard office is ideally positioned to improve accessibility and responsiveness for regional clients.
This new facility is designed to be versatile in meeting the needs of the company. Some of the features of this new facility includes dedicated spaces for technical seminars, hands-on customer training, product demonstrations, and industry meetings (2). By having this office with this infrastructure in place, Metrohm’s main objective is to be able to engage more directly with clients (2). This new facility is designed to offer personalized support to Metrohm’s clients and deliver solutions tailored to them that meets their specific application needs (2).
Metrohm has long maintained a strong presence in the Chicago area, with numerous successful customer events and training sessions demonstrating the demand for local resources. The new Lombard office builds on that momentum, offering even greater capacity to host regional meetings, workshops, and events in collaboration with industry associations.
According to the press release, Metrohm has scheduled their ribbon-cutting ceremony for Wednesday April 30th at 10:00 am CST (2). They have extended the invitation to their customers, partners, and community members, who will all have the opportunity to tour their new laboratory space and connect and interact with Metrohm experts (2). The new facility is located at 1980 Springer Dr, Lombard, IL 60148 (2).
This expansion reflects Metrohm’s broader mission to deliver not only high-quality instruments for titration, ion chromatography, spectroscopy, and electrochemistry, but also an exceptional, human-centered customer experience. Metrohm has several offices located in the United States. Their US headquarters are located in Riverview, Florida, and they also have field offices in Pasadena, Texas, and Plainsboro, New Jersey.
With this latest investment, Metrohm is seeking to reinforce its role as a trusted partner in analytical chemistry, bringing innovation, accessibility, and expertise even closer to the people and industries that rely on them every day in the Midwest.
“The way we take care of customers is deeply embedded in our culture,” the company noted in its announcement. “Every Metrohm experience is uniquely personal and supportive.”

How Analytical Chemists Are Navigating DOGE-Driven Funding Cuts
July 14th 2025DOGE-related federal funding cuts have sharply reduced salaries, lab budgets, and graduate support in academia. Researchers view the politically driven shifts in priorities as part of recurring systemic issues in U.S. science funding during administrative transitions. The impact on Federal laboratories has varied, with some seeing immediate effects and others experiencing more gradual effects. In general, there is rising uncertainty over future appropriations. Sustainable recovery may require structural reforms, leaner administration, and stronger industry-academia collaboration. New commentary underscores similar challenges, noting scaled-back graduate admissions, spending freezes, and a pervasive sense of overwhelming stress among faculty, students, and staff. This article addresses these issues for the analytical chemistry community.
