Hellma USA, Inc.

Company Description

Hellma GmbH & Co., founded in 1922, is the world market leader in cells, fiber optic probes, and optical components made of glass or quartz which are used for modern optical analysis. Hellma products are available worldwide through a network of Hellma sister companies and additional distribution agents.

Major Products/Services

Custom Designed Products

In addition to the large range of standard products, Hellma also manufactures special cells and other precision optical parts according to customer's specifications. Hellma has more than 85 years experience in the field of glass machining and fabrication. Our specialists can carry out complex tasks and give full and competent advice regarding design ideas and any alternative possibilities.

Analysis in space — processing at the cutting edge of technology

A close collaboration with research institutes, universities, and scientific institutions is important for Hellma's outstanding engineering competence. Based on this extensive know-how in processing techniques, Hellma is able to find unique solutions. Excellent examples of achievements are the individually designed, custom-made cells being used in the International Space Station (ISS) or those which were used in physics research that led to the winning of the Nobel Prize in 1997 and 2001.

The TrayCell — Fiber-optic ultra-micro cells for UV/Vis analysis

Even in classical analysis the specialists at Hellma are always setting new standards. One of the most recent examples: the fiber-optic ultra-micro measuring cell "TrayCell," which allows accurate analysis of DNA, RNA, or proteins in sample volumes of as low as 0.7 µl. The dimensions of the TrayCell are equivalent to a standard cell in order to work in all common spectrophotometers.

Features:

  • Unique fiber optic ultra-micro measuring cell

  • Works with 0.7–5 µl sample volume

  • A single drop measuring sample is sufficient

  • High precision and reproducibility

  • Dilution is not necessary

Complete traceability and excellent reliability of measurement results — with UV/Vis calibration standards from the accredited DKD calibration laboratory of Hellma

With the accreditation according to DIN EN ISO 17025, Hellma is one of the leading accredited calibration laboratories that produce and certify liquid and glass calibration filters made for testing spectrophotometers. Increased security and quality demands among laboratories require an improved traceability of measurement results to an internationally approved standard. An accreditation according to DIN EN ISO 17025 ensures the traceability of calibrations carried out to references of the NIST, by which an international correlation of measurement results is assured. Thus procedures in laboratories gain greater transparency and improved protection of their measurement results.

Modern Flow Cytometry requires highest standards

The heart of every flow cytometer is a small quartz glass flow channel providing reliable stability of the fluidic system and precise optical analysis of single cells. Due to sophisticated technologies Hellma is able to manufacture customer specified channel dimensions down to 50 µm × 50 µm with any outside dimension and highly polished surfaces.

Fiber–optical systems

The development of fiber-optical systems has caused a small revolution in chemical analysis. This technology makes it possible to carry out photometric measurements not only under laboratory conditions with cells, but also outside the lab. Through the development of fiber-optic probes, analysis has moved directly to the process for measurements with continuous measurements possible without sampling. This allows for better control of ongoing processes with much less effort.

Teledyne Leeman Labs

Company Description

Since its founding in 1981, Teledyne Leeman Labs has been an innovator in atomic spectroscopy and introduced many concepts that are now considered industry standards. Among these were the first use of an echelle spectrometer for ICP-OES and the first fully automated mercury analyzers.

Now a leading supplier of instruments for elemental analysis, we take great pride in the quality and value of our products and the depth of our commitment to customer satisfaction.

Chief Spectroscopic Techniques Supported

  • Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectrometers

  • DC Arc spectrometers

  • Mercury analysis

Markets Served

Leeman Labs' products are used in applications essential to QA/QC, environmental analysis, R&D, and process control. They are used in industries including: aerospace, agriculture, automotive, beverage, biofuels, chemicals and petrochemicals, clinical, electronics, environmental/contract labs, foods/food processing, forensics, geological, hazardous waste, metals manufacturing, mining, nuclear, petroleum/gas, pharmaceutical/supplements, power generation, soils, wastewater, and wear metals/oils.

Major Products/Services

Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectrometers: Prodigy ICP brings together a state-of-the-art, large format, programmable array detector (L-PAD) with an advanced high dispersion Echelle spectrometer to provide exceptional analytical performance. Prodigy is our most powerful and versatile ICP spectrometer. Prism ICP is a high performance cost effective simultaneous array detector ICP. Designed for practicality and performance, Prism is a great solution for many QA/QC and environmental analysis applications. ProfilePlus ICP is a great step-up from atomic absorption spectrometers and is a cost effective solution for labs with limited sample loads.

Mercury Analyzers: Hydra IIAA operates on the principle of cold vapor atomic absorption (CVAA) to provide the analyst with a 1 ppt detection limit as well as compatibility with an extremely wide range of sample matrices. Hydra IIAF operates on the principle of cold vapor atomic fluorescence (CVAF) and is available in two configurations. The first is the core Hydra IIAF which provides a detection limit of 0.1 ppt and a dynamic range that extends to the high ppb level. For laboratories that require even lower limits of detection, the Hydra IIAFGold includes a gold amalgamation system to preconcentrate mercury and yield a limit of detection well below 0.05 ppt. Hydra-C operates on the principle of thermal decomposition with atomic absorption detection to facilitate the direct analysis of solid or liquid samples. Hydra-C is designed to address the needs of analysts who want to use EPA method 7473 or who simply want to determine mercury without having to digest their samples.

DC Arc Spectrometer: Prodigy DC Arc is designed for fast, quantitative elemental analyses of difficult to dissolve samples. Prodigy DC Arc performs elemental analysis of samples in their native form without sample digestion. Few other techniques can challenge the ease-of-use or productivity of DC Arc when it comes to samples that are difficult or impossible to digest.

Inorganic Standards and Reagents: Plasma-Pure Standards: Single and Multi-element standards for AA, ICP, and ICP-MS as well as high purity reagents for mercury analysis.

Major Products/Services

WITec alpha300 Confocal Raman Microscope: The alpha300 R is a Raman imaging system focusing on high-resolution as well as high-speed spectra and image acquisition. The acquisition time for a single Raman spectrum is in the range of one millisecond or even below; thus, a complete Raman image consisting of tens of thousands of spectra can be obtained in one minute or less. Differences in chemical composition, although completely invisible in the optical image, will be apparent in the Raman image and can be analyzed with a resolution down to 200 nm.

WITec alpha500 Automated Confocal Raman & Atomic Force Microscope: The alpha500 is an automated Confocal Raman and atomic force microscopy system incorporating a motorized sample stage for large samples and customized multi-area/multi-point measurements. It allows nondestructive chemical imaging with Confocal Raman Microscopy as well as high-resolution topography imaging with AFM using the integrated piezo scan-stage. Both modes can be run fully automatically, guaranteeing the most comprehensive surface inspection possibilities for systematic and routine research tasks or high-level quality control.
